East Hampton Town
350th Anniversary Celebration

MEMORIES OF A PRINTER'S DEVIL
The duties of the printer's devil were many - cleaning the presses, cleaning the building, melting and recasting the lead slugs from the linotype into large lead "pigs" . . .

THE WRECK OF H.M.S. SYLPH
Among Long Island's most deadly shipwrecks was that of the British 22-gun sloop-of-war Sylph, which went aground near Shinnecock Point in a snowstorm on Jan. 16, 1815. The captain, Henry Dickens, was lost, along with all but one of his 12 officers and all but five of a crew of 121.

THE HARDINGS WERE HERE: A FOOTNOTE TO HISTORY
Bill Clinton's visit to East Hampton in August set off a flurry among local historians to determine who had been the last sitting President before him to visit the town.
