East Hampton Town 350th Anniversary Celebration
|
A WHALING EXPEDITION One April morning in 1906, my father and I were tending our eel pots in Hook Pond. We had just landed near the gut and were bailing out the eels into barrels when we noticed E.J. Edwards, who had a fishing shanty near ours on the dunes, rushing around as if something unusual was in the making.
THE TASTE OF HISTORY The authors of the East Hampton Ladies Village Improvement Society's 70th anniversary cookbook noted in its foreword that it was an East Hampton native who "pioneered the study of Home Economics."
HUNDREDTH INTERVIEW The carriage house and museum on the grounds of Miss Amelia's Cottage, the Amagansett Historical Association's museum, was the backdrop last week for the 100th interview in the series being conducted by the History Project Inc.
What's In A Name? HIGHWAY BEHIND THE LOTS
EIGHT HISTORIC DAYS History buffs will not lack opportunities to expand their knowledge of old East Hampton over the next eight days, which are packed with tricentquinquagenary-related activities.
JACK KEHOE, 'MR. GOLD LEAF' If there's anybody out there who remains unaware of East Hampton Town's tricentquinquagenary celebration - with its lectures, tours, special events, and big parade - it will certainly enter their consciousness the moment they enter the town. Handsome carved-wood signs welcoming visitors to celebrate the anniversary have been posted since earlier this summer at East Hampton's portals.
