EAST HAMPTON'S CONNECTICUT CONNECTION When East Hampton established itself as a separate town in 1648 or 1649, it fell under the nominal jurisdiction of Connecticut. I cannot find, however, that it was ever fully integrated. No deputies from East Hampton ever took their places at the semiannual meetings of Connecticut's governing body, the General Court, which sat in Hartford, and, in keeping with a tradition that provided for no taxation if no representation, Connecticut at first levied no taxes on East Hampton.
