To Map Cancer Cases At State, Local Levels
A statewide mapping of cancer patients, thought on Sunday to have become a last-minute budget casualty after Governor Pataki vetoed its $1 million cost, found new life the next day.

Authority Lawyer Fired
The East Hampton Housing Authority, which has been trying to reverse a series of catastrophes, shed its lawyer this week and accepted the resignation of its property manager. It also was learned that the authority had a second investor interested in helping finance the 50-apartment complex under way on Accabonac Highway.

St. Therese Teardown?
The Parish Council of St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church in Montauk has agreed that the congregation's much-loved church building should be replaced with a new church of similar design. The Tudor-style building, on South Essex Avenue, is a downtown Montauk landmark.

Up Beach-Driving Fee
East Hampton Town Trustees approved an increase in the fee nonresidents must pay for an East Hampton beach-driving permit Tuesday night, as well as an increase in fines for driving without a permit.
