1849 HISTORY IS REPRINTED
Henry Onderdonk Jr.'s "Revolutionary Incidents of Suffolk and Kings Counties," first published in 1849 and long out of print, has been reprinted by a Massachusetts publisher.
The book offers insight into the part played by Long Islanders in the struggle for independence. Military and personal letters that narrate the Battle of Long Island are included, as are accounts of wretched conditions in British prisons of the time, often converted from churches and ships. There are stories also of coastal smuggling and spying off Suffolk County and of the British military occupation.
The 268-page facsimile edition is hardbound, and is available by mail through the Higginson Book Company, 148 Washington Street, Dept. P, Salem, Mass. 01970. The cost is $35 per copy plus $5 for shipping.
