Revise The Process
In the next few days, the attorney for the East Hampton Town Planning Board will write an official resolution denying Deena Zenger permission to put up a building for her Country School on Route 114, a project that has had her before the Planning Board for a year and a half and cost her $40,000 so far.
Night Meetings
When Republicans took over the East Hampton Town Board in January of 1997 they moved one of the board's Friday morning voting sessions to Thursday nights. The move got bipartisan applause outside of Town Hall for making town government more accessible to working people.
Toward Accountability
It doesn't happen often that government leaders voluntarily relinquish power or abandon autonomy but, this is what New York State's budgetary Big Three - Governor George E. Pataki, Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno, and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver -have done.

The coming of spring and warm weather inspires some people to prodigious heights of energy but leaves others mired in an ennui born of the pressing need to do yard work.
