This romantic, somewhat formal inn has lawns and gardens spreading down a hill toward the water, trees with swings, and a long veranda where you can enjoy a drink in the summer. In winter, there are fires on the hearth to keep away the chill. Brunch, which offers everything from crab cakes to omelettes to rich desserts, is popular. The menu changes with the seasons. Pipes cove oysters with strawberry-champagne mignonette were on the list of appetizers, and grilled Block Island swordfish was an entree. Reservations very much encouraged. Sunday night jazz in summer.
