The Montauket is famous for the spectacular sunsets over Fort Pond, which you can watch from a porch, and for being funky. The building, hotel rooms, and cottages have been for sale for a year or so, and the asking price was recently lowered. The menu has seafood and fish, salads, and pot roast and pork chops. The Montauket is kid-friendly, and provided parents don't mind the flowing beer, they can have burgers, mozzarella sticks, fried shrimp, and the like. An outdoor daiquiri bar serves oysters, clams, and shrimp.
