The Hideaway
The Hideaway is at the Diamond Cove Marina on Lake Montauk, and to say the family-run restaurant is hard to find would be an understatement. It is worth the hunt. There is a full Mexican menu, including ceviche of the day, prickly cactus salad, and grilled corn for starters. Entrees include fish tacos, tamales, the obligatory burritos, and sopes, all done with fresh ingredients. Stuffed jalapeno peppers are one of the crowd's favorites, as are ribs with excellent house-made barbecue sauce, which you may even be able to take home if you ask nicely. Margaritas with fresh-squeezed lime and Mexican beers at the bar. No table service; you place an order at the counter and wait for your buzzer to go off. Traditional Mexican breakfast and lunch, too.
