Barrister's is friendly and comfortable, a place where you can drop in for a bowl of chili or a burger. Children are provided with crayons and place mats, the many regulars are greeted by name, and there is an outdoor patio. The wine list is small but reasonably priced, and the menu includes the tried-and-true dishes you'll find from Maine to Monterey -- chowders, steak on garlic bread, big salads, roast chicken, quiche, and rich chocolate cake. Barrister's will have a two-for-one menu on Tuesday nights again this summer.
