Voluntary Evacuation of Fire Island West Urged

     According to a release from Suffolk Executive Steve Levy's office Thursday, officials are asking residents of western Fire Island to begin evacuating voluntarily. This is in anticipation of a possible mandatory evacuation order to be made on Friday.

     Announcements about the locations of shelters will be made in cooperation with the American Red Cross, the release said.
