Doris E. Lyons of Sag Harbor volunteered her time to the American Heart Association and loved to dance, quilt, and spend time with her family. She died at San Simeon by the Sound Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Greenport on Monday. She was 82.
She was born on Oct. 10, 1929, in Bridgehampton, a daughter of Fredwin Yost and the former Minnie Schwenk, and grew up there, where her grandparents had farmed. She was a graduate of the Bridgehampton School.
In 1948 she married William D. Lyons. They were married for 50 years. Her daughter, Pamela L. Hulse, lives in Greenport. Her son, Kimberly R. Lyons, lives in Johnstown, N.Y. Her husband predeceased her, as did a sister, Lois Ward of Sag Harbor.
Ms. Hulse said her mother’s dancing feet led to dancing lessons for both parents. “They went out dancing and had fun,” Ms. Hulse said. She added that her mother was an excellent quilter, “all by hand, no machines.” Family was extremely important to her, she said. Mrs. Lyons also worked for the East Hampton School District for 10 years.
A graveside service was to take place today at 11 a.m. at Oakland Cemetery in Sag Harbor. Memorial contributions have been suggested for the American Cancer Society.
