Marilyn E. Lopez, a Clermont, Fla., resident who was born and raised in East Hampton, died on Oct. 8 in Panama City, Fla. She had suffered from more than 50 years of degenerative disease, her family said. She was 67.
Ms. Lopez was the eldest of Udell Cullum and the former Emily Burke’s three children, born on July 7, 1944, at Southampton Hospital. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Sag Harbor and later pursued a medical assistant’s license in New York City. She was married to Manuel Lopez for more than 40 years.
Ms. Lopez loved listening to her favorite soft-rock station, WBAZ, scrapbooking, stamping, spending time with family, and participating in community outreach with her church, her family said. “Her infectious laugh, encouraging demeanor, and desire to always put the needs of others above her own attracted all who were in her life to remain friends forever,” they said.
She is survived by her husband, her brother, Dell Cullum of East Hampton, and her sisters, Diane Balnis and Gail Stone, both of East Hampton. Her son Matthew Lopez lives in Panama City with his wife, Wendy. Another son, Mark Lopez, lives in Cocoa Beach, Fla.
A celebration of her life and memory will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the East End Church of Christ, to which her family has suggested donations. The address is 500 Sag Harbor Turnpike, East Hampton 11937.
